Learn how to create fire from scratch using basic tools and shapes already provided in Photoshop. There are no shortcuts in this tutorial, make fire fast and easy without downloading brushes.
Step 1
Select the Custom Shape Tool, pick the Fire Shape and place it where ever you wish to add fire to in your image.
Step 2
Just under the Shape Layer create a New Layer and use the Paint Bucket Tool to fill it entirely with Black (#00000). After you have done this merge both layers together.
Step 3
Go to Filter > Blur > Shape Blur, pick the Fire Shape and set the Radius to 15 pixels.
Step 4
Go to Image > Adjustments > Colour Balance and set the levels the same as the screenshot below.
Tone Balance: Midtones
Cyan: +100
Magenta: 0
Yellow: -100
Tone Balance: Highlights
Cyan: +20
Magenta: 0
Yellow: -20
Tone Balance: Shadows
Cyan: -60
Magenta: 0
Yellow: +100
Step 5
Go to Filter > Blur > Shape Blur again, this time set the Radius to 5 pixels
Step 6
Change the Blend Mode for the layer to Lighten.
Step 7
As you’ll probably notice the bottom of the flame is perfectly rounded which makes it look like a copy and paste job, use the Smudge Tool along with a Soft Brush to fix this.
Step 8
You don’t need a second flame. However, I am going to show you how just in case you are adding fire to other objects eg. Stove, Lighter etc. To add a second flame Duplicate the fire layers and go to Images > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation, then mirror the settings below to get a blueish colour:
Hue: -180
Saturation: +50
Lightness: 0
Saturation: +50
Lightness: 0
Use the Free Transform Tool to slightly put it on an angle and make it smaller in size.
Step 9
Change the Opacity to 50%.
Step 10
If your happy with the way it looks feel free to stop at this point . If you want to take it a step further my advice is to Duplicate, Transform and place the flame in places that makes some sense to you.
