How to Restore The Volume In Ubuntu :
  1. Open the Terminal in Ubuntu
  2. Type in alsamixer, no need for super user privileges
  3. A nice little GUI should appear in the Terminal window
  4. Press F6 from your keyboard and select your sound card that is experiencing low sound
  5. Find the Master bar (or something similar)
  6. You should see that this bar will be very low, press the arrow keys until that bar gets selected (should see the text change to red, that means it’s selected)
  7. Press the up arrow button on your keyboard and max it out (you should see 100 at the bottom of the bar)
  8. Press Esc from your keyboard
  9. Close the Terminal
  10. Open your music application and you should have full sound again
